Books on My Shelf

This is to be an ongoing list of books that I have read this year.

January
Scarlet by Stephen Lawhead- Second in a series, Hood being the first one. Interesting take on the whole Robin Hood tale. Tuck will be the third in the series out some time next year.
Kushiel’s Justice by Jacqueline Carey- This is #5 of the whole series. #2 of a second trilogy. Very good and a logical wrap-up of the story so far. One of those series that you read and wonder not only how she can top this latest book, but when will the next one be out!
Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs- #3 in a series. Very good alternative universe on humanity/Fae relations. I really like the character Mercy. I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Dates From Hell This is a collection of stories by four authors that write alternative universe stories. Kim Harrison being the lead author. Lynsay Sands, Kelly Armstrong and Lori Handeland also have a story in this volume. Very good stories all of them, with the one by Lynsay Sands leaving me with a “Where’s MORE?” feeling.
Anthony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough

It’s My Party and I’ll Knit If I want To! by Sharon Aris. So far this is a riot! A lovely mix of fiction-ettiquitte, real people and knitting. This is an e-book from WOWIO. Very good and one I think I may keep.

Kitty and the Silver Bullet by Carrie Vaughn. This is the 4th in a series. Love the books because they are set in Colorado. One of them is even set in Walsenburg and Huerfano county!

February
The Chase by Clive Cussler. No, it isn’t a Dirk Pitt novel. In fact, it is a stand alone as far as I can tell, about a bank robber in 1906. Lovely book. Really enjoyed the whole thing. Very dime store novel in style.
Yarrow by Charles De Lint. A bit of Urban fantasy to rest my brain.
Widdershins by Charles De Lint. Ok if one is good, two is better right? :> This is a sequel to the Onion Girl I read last autumn.
The Ballad of Frankie Silver by Sharon McCrumb. This is a book I have picked up and put down between other books for over a year. Good story, but as I owned the book, I wasn’t too worried about finishing it. Finally decided to do so and couldn’t find my copy. So, I borrowed the library’s. sigh….
Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison. Mind Candy. Werewolves, and witches and vampires oh my!

March
The Summer Country by James Hetley. An interesting take on the whole Arthurian tales. Looking forward to reading The Winter Oak, which is the sequal.
A fistful of Charms, by Kim Harrison. Yes, more mind candy! Have to relieve stress somehow!

April
For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. Okay, so I’m on a roll… Waiting for other books to come in. :>
Developing License-Free Wireless Wide-Area Networks by Jack Unger. Work related reading.

May

The Other Boleyn Girl By Philippa Gregory. Historical fiction. Very good. Suggested by Jolene.

The Man Who Was Magic By Paul Gallico. One I read ages and ages ago and still love.

Harlequin by Laurell K. Hamilton. Second reading, but getting ready for the new one due out in about a week.

June

The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory. This one was about Katherine of Aragon. Not too bad.

Blue Moon By Lori Handeland. Werewolves, sex and mind candy! Just what I needed. :>

Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton. Next in the series… Not bad, but there are days I miss the murder mysteries that these started out to be. Strange eh?

Hunter’s Moon By Lori Handeland. More werewolves…. I’m on a roll. teeheehee…

The Wise Woman by Philippa Gregory. Tudor England, witches, Catholics… and not the world’s best ending. Not normally a “let’s have a happy ending” type person, but… I could have gone for one here.

No One Noticed the Cat by Anne McCaffrey. I found this small treasure at the FOL booksale. Hard bound and in great condition. Sat down and read it in an hour or so. Love this one!

July

The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory. Fairly good. A continuance of the Tudor queens stories.

The Sundering by Jacqueline Carey. I got maybe a chapter into the book and realized that I just couldn’t go on with it. Maybe another time.

Dark Moon by Lori Handeland. 3rd in the series

The Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. Lovely book. Needed something light to change up my brain. :>

Rising Moon by Lori Handeland. 6th in the series. Out of order I know, but I’m subject to the whim of the ILL system at the library.

Hidden Moon by Lori Handeland. Very good!

Crescent Moon by Lori Handeland. Just started and interensting as it relates to the last one I read.

August

The Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. sigh….

Thunder Moon by Lori Handeland. Good!

Midnight Moon by Lori Handeland. Now to wait for more!

Dracula By Bram Stoker. Reading this with Matt. Very good and better than I remember it.

The Good, The Bad and The Undead By Kim Harrison. The library finally got this one in!

The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico.Oh my… it still brings tears to my eyes.

September

Family Wicca by Ashleen O’Gaea. Very good book that I have recently re-read.

Raising Witches by Ashleen O’Gaea. Another good book. Wish I’d had it 15-20 years ago.

Without Remorse by Tom Clancy. Ah, What a spy guy!

October

Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy. Makes you wonder just who Clancy talks to over coffee.

The Dreaming Place by Charles DeLint. Fast easy read and very good.

Cry Wolf by Patrica Briggs. Second in the Alpha and Omega Series. Very good!!!! I also re-read the first story in On The Prowl. The short story is the first of the A&O storyline.

Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison. Next in the Hollows series. Very good. Love the continuing tribute to Clint Eastwood films!

(read something else… can I remember it? NO! )

November

The Devil’s Right Hand Man: The true story of serial killer Robert Charles Browne This one was interesting because one of the Cold Case officers was Jeff Nohr. I went to high school with him. Jeff that is…. Good book even if a bit dry at times.

Swallowing Darkness by Laurel K. Hamilton. Next in the Merry series. So far so good.

December

Fairest by Gail Carson Levine.  A book I bought Morgan and she recommended I read it. Very good.

The Mummy By Anne Rice. A perennial favourite. One I really wish she had written a sequel for.

Ever by Gail Carson Levine. Next one that Morgan crowed about. We shall see.
